The Original Physician Recruiting Platform Built for Independent Practices
PhysicianWork launched in 2000 as the first comprehensive physician job site covering every specialty. Under its original founder Jeffrey Sisk, the platform is back — rebuilt for independent practices and medical groups who need direct access to physician candidates without recruiter fees.
The Original #1 Job Site for Physicians Is Back
The launch of this new PhysicianWork under the leadership of its original founder Jeffrey Sisk in November 2025 marks the return of the very first comprehensive physician job site — the undisputed market leader for over a decade after launching in 2000.
This new platform is built specifically for independent practices and medical groups who are structurally disadvantaged in physician hiring. Hospital systems have internal recruiting departments. Traditional recruiting firms prioritize their largest clients. PhysicianWork gives independent practices direct access to 166,000+ verified physician profiles at a flat monthly rate — no placement fees, no long-term contracts.
The platform continues to evolve with new features and tools. The mission stays the same: give independent practices a better way to find and hire physicians.
How PhysicianWork Came to Be
In 1996, PhysicianWork's original founder Jeffrey Sisk went to work for the locum tenens company Medical Doctor Associates (MDA). Since the early 70's, he had grown up knowing the founders of several major locum tenens companies — including Jack Coker (original founder of Jackson & Coker), Rick Jackson (later partner with Jack Coker, and eventually founded Jackson Healthcare), and Ken Shumard (founder of MDA), among others.
Mr. Sisk quickly worked through the ranks at MDA and became a recruiter/marketer, proceeding to break existing company records by rising to the level of booking 100+ locum tenens workdays per month in less than 90 days (Pediatrics in the northeast — not an easy feat). After MDA, having previous software engineering experience, he was asked to automate many operational processes for locum tenens assignments: online client/candidate databases, credentials, contracts, malpractice insurance, timesheets, billing, and payroll. These experiences gave him a unique operational knowledge of the industry.
In the late 1990's, no online job sites existed yet for all physician specialties. New employment sites such as monster.com and hotjobs.com were highly inefficient medical recruiting resources. However, a couple of basic niche sites for Radiology and Anesthesiology existed and were very successful. This is where the idea was born for PhysicianWork. Mr. Sisk knew that if you created a site for all physician specialties and made it popular, it would be a game changer. PAs, NPs, and CRNAs were added from day one, because for most facilities and staffing firms, the team who recruited physicians typically recruited for these areas as well.
The Idea Is Born
Mr. Sisk conceived the idea for a comprehensive physician job site covering all specialties.
PhysicianWork Launches
The first version, built in approximately 8 weeks, launched as a free site and exploded overnight in popularity.
New Platform Launched
A fully rebuilt codebase with advanced features went live, followed by the first paid subscriptions on August 15, 2001. Companies signed up in big numbers.
Industry Leadership
PhysicianWork became the undisputed market leader. The platform was well known for being highly responsive to users, rapidly adding requested features, and heavily supporting industry organizations such as ASPR and NAPR.
Platform Redesigned
A new site design was launched, continuing to serve the growing community of healthcare recruiters and candidates.
The Return
Under the leadership of original founder Jeffrey Sisk, the new PhysicianWork launches — representing a leap forward in technology and AI-driven recruiting.
"Trust us with your advertising dollars, and we will ensure PhysicianWork is your very best recruiting resource."
This promise was made by Mr. Sisk to employers and recruiting firms at the time of the original launch — and PhysicianWork made good on it. In addition to exceptional candidate flow, the platform was heavily invested in community support, rapid feature development, and industry partnerships for many years.
